The San Antonio Spurs are in a very interesting situation because they certainly have talent in their squad, but they might decide to get rid of some guys.
It would be hard to claim that they are in a good position right now because, frankly, they just aren’t. They are currently in 11th place in the Western Conference and have no real chance of competing for an NBA title in the near future.
They either have to decide to go into full rebuild mode or go out and have a guy or two outfitted next to Dejounte Murray. If they decide to get rid of Murray by the NBA trade deadline, they have to get back a comeback that he’s worth because he’s certainly a very good player in this league, and get back something other than a superstar, and some draft picks, won’t be what Spurs want to do. Trading him for a guy like Ben Simmons wouldn’t make much sense from Spurs’ point of view and they can’t allow something like that to happen.
Let’s take a look at three guys whose San Antonio Spurs could benefit from trades at NBA trade deadline

NBA Spurs trade deadline
3. Thaddeus Young
Thaddeus Young will definitely be moved to the NBA trade deadline and that’s actually a good thing for Spurs. Unfortunately for Sain Antonio, it might be difficult to match the wages with other guys just because of how much he earns. Luckily for Spurs he’s someone who can defend at a high level and every team in the field is going to be looking for someone like that.
Young could grab a decent trading package and that’s something Spurs will need to keep in mind. It will be in their best interest to decide to get rid of him. With how much of a defenseman he is, many teams are going to view him as a PJ Tucker situation that the Milwaukee Bucks were lucky to get last year. Teams will definitely try to come out and get a power forward who can defend one to five positions at a high level.
2. Bryn Forbes
Bryn Forbes could be one of the best options San Antonio has to trade at the deadline as he showed last year with the Milwaukee Bucks that he can hit the three-point shot at an insanely high rate and help win. a playoff series for a rival team. Last year against the Miami Heat, he beat Jimmy Butler and was one of the main reasons the Bucks were able to sweep the Heat.
Many competing teams will still be looking for a locked-down 3-point shooter, and he could grab a draft pick or two that Spurs desperately need.
He’s also making $ 4million this season, so he could be an interesting name to pair with someone else if Spurs want to bring someone next to Dejounte Murray. It probably wouldn’t make sense for them to go out and get a real second star as there are other areas they will need to improve this season and they are not ready to compete for an NBA title.
It will be interesting to see what Spurs decide to do on the trade deadline with Forbes. There’s a good chance they’ll decide to move him just because so many vying teams are going to be making phone calls and trying to get him to hit some big bangs for them.
1. Dejount Murray
It’s very interesting because Dejounte Murray has clearly been an All-Star this season and he is the future of this organization. He averages 17 points per game, eight rebounds and 8.8 assists. He has done everything San Antonio can ask for him and it would be crazy for them to decide to trade him. They should realize that they are not necessarily in a good competitive position in the Western Conference as they are currently 14-22 and in 11th place in the Western Conference.
It might be a good time to get rid of him just because they can grab a huge package for him and also have draft picks with it. It wouldn’t necessarily be the smartest thing from a team perspective as he’s been amazing and certainly someone they certainly don’t want to move and would never move if they were in a better position.
They could definitely think about keeping him as he’s still only 25 and if they’re in a rebuilding process he’s the perfect guy to help speed that up.
