As we approach the 2022 NBA trade deadline, the Cleveland Cavaliers should become buyers in the market. Given that the Cavs have so far defied expectations with a young and growing squad, they should be encouraged to make at least one aggressive move to bolster their playoff push ahead of the Feb. 10 buzzer.

Cleveland currently holds the third seed in the Eastern Conference with a 30-19 record. They’re allowing opponents just 102.2 points per game, which ranks second in the league behind the Golden State Warriors. Additionally, head coach JB Bickerstaff’s team ranks third in defensive ratings.

As the 2022 NBA trade deadline draws closer, let’s take a look at five potential trade targets for the Cleveland Cavaliers as they continue to gain ground.

Behind rising star Darius Garland and a teeming defense with seven-foot center Jarrett Allen and up-and-coming rookie Evan Mobley serving as an elite frontcourt backbone, the Cavaliers have emerged as a serious contender in the Eastern Conference.

Garland will most likely earn his first career NBA All-Star selection this season, and Allen has a good chance as well. It’s an exciting time in the city of Cleveland, where the All-Star Game will take place on February 20.

Despite losing guards Collin Sexton and Ricky Rubio to season-ending injuries, the Cavs continue to roll steadily. It’s been an impressive performance in the first half of the season, and credit has to be given to Bickerstaff, president of basketball operations Koby Altman and the front office, and that list of passings.

With the Cleveland Cavaliers in a prime position to earn a high seed in the playoffs, they have an opportunity to bolster the roster in hopes of making a playoff run this year. Cleveland has some attractive assets that could be used to lure teams into trade talks and can use Rubio’s expiring $17.8 million contract to match wages in potential deals.

Let’s take a look at five potential trade targets for the Cavaliers with the deadline just two weeks away.
