Basketball Africa League, New Fortress Energy and Trees for the Future launch the BAL Green Legacy school project in Senegal

The African Basketball League (BALL), New Fortress Energy (NASDAQ: ENF, a global energy infrastructure company founded to help accelerate the global transition to clean energy) and Trees for the Future (an international non-profit organization focused on training farmers to regenerate their land) today launched the first BALL Green Legacy school project at Lycée Yoff Village in Dakar, Senegal.

The BALL Legacy School Project is part of BALL Green, the league’s environmental initiative based on the collective platform of the BALL, its teams, players and fans to advocate for greater environmental responsibility, to have a positive impact on people’s lives and to help develop the next generation of environmentally conscious leaders. As part of the initiative, the BALL provides some schools with resources to create real-life experiences that influence behavior, including improving access to water and sanitation, implementing recycling and composting programs nationwide school, teaching gardening and agriculture, and establishing clean-up and planting days.

As part of the project launch at Lycée Yoff Village, the BALL, ENF and Trees for the Future donated handwashing stations and recycling bins, removed green waste from public spaces, expanded a forest garden, renovated student offices and a well, and created additional spaces where more more than 2,000 students can live, learn and play. BALL President Amadou Gallo Fall, BALL Global Ambassador Luol Deng and Trees for the Future Director Cherif Djitte attended the launch event.

“The Green Legacy School Project is a great initiative to help educate the next generation on the importance of preserving our environment and inspire them to pave the way for a more sustainable future,” said ENF President and CEO, Wes Edens. “Protecting our environment while moving to cleaner and more affordable energy is at the heart of our mission at ENF and we are proud to work with BALL and Trees for the Future in this vital endeavor.

During the inauguration BALL season in May 2021, the BALL and ENF collaborated with Trees for the Future to launch “Threes for Trees”, which donated three trees for every three-point pointer made during the BALL season. In total, the BALL and ENF donated $ 30,000 and over 100,000 trees to farmers and environmental non-profit organizations in Senegal and other African countries.
