Best (and worst) 2021 Lakers Halloween costumes – All Lakers

The Lakers may have kicked off their 2021-22 season with a 3-3 record, but they posted a higher winning percentage where it matters most: having stunning Halloween costumes.

Ahead of tonight’s game against the Houston Rockets (7:30 p.m. PT), the Los Angeles players mostly got their seasonal kicks last night in elaborate outfits. Let’s unbox some of the awesome outfits released to commemorate the spooky season.

All-Star Lakers forward LeBron James is a known fan of horror movies, like his recent cinematic serial killer leg tattoo can attest to this. In the past, he has disguised himself as Pennywise the Clown. With the exception of last year, when the COVID-19 pandemic effectively killed Halloween (temporarily), LeBron still seems to go all out with his costumes. More recently at this point, LeBron disguised himself as Edward Scissorhands with a incredibly detailed outfit.

So what did he do for Halloween 2021?

He went as Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), of course, with a very high level multi-piece burn prosthesis and a cleverly aged hat, to accompany the striped shirt and claw gloves required. And he didn’t kill alone.

a Instagram story reported LeBron was partying with All-Star teammates Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook. Davis wore a full face mask and costume as Tony Todd’s Candyman. Davis gets bonus points for coordinating a tandem outfit. His wife Marlen went Gothic in the role of Bloody Mary.

So who was Russell Westbrook this year? He went all-in on Chucky (Brad Dourif), of course. From his scars and stitches, it looks like Chucky’s Bride (1998) – the first incarnation of the murderous cursed child toy.

Westbrook also gets bonus points for coordinating his outfit with his wife Nina, who dressed up as Chucky’s main Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly), first shown in Married, the fourth installment in the ever-stabbing horror comedy franchise.

Lakers pitcher Kent Bazemore, who at the time of publication had yet to reveal his Halloween outfit to the public, appreciated the couple’s commitment to the cause, posting “Crazy ass 😂😂😂” in response.

Here’s the Instagram story of the star trio of the Lakers, partying as serial killers in the spirit of the season:

In a move that’s sure to raise eyebrows, new Laker Carmelo Anthony disguised himself as Netflix’s The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) Squid game, just a week after teammate LeBron took umbrage at the show and its creator responded in kind. The backup striker’s full costume appears to have been professionally photographed for posting on his Instagram page:

The likely fifth Hall of Famer on the Lakers ‘roster, backup center Dwight Howard (who should probably start ahead of DeAndre Jordan, if Anthony Davis still doesn’t want to change positions), still goes HAM for All Hallows’ Eve. As you will probably remember, Dwight is memorable stole the show at the 2019 Lakers Halloween Costume Party, wearing high profile makeup, including a big costume, to portray Rasputia Latimore, one of Eddie Murphy’s many characters in North (2007). What has he done for an encore this year? He got retro enough, wearing a head-to-toe reenactment of the classic martial arts comedy outfit. The last dragon (1985) Villainous Sho’nuff (Julius Carry):

The return of playmaker Rajon Rondo clearly got the mission, wearing an incredibly detailed Wolverine costume. Rondo wore excellent fake facial hair to complete the look. Rondo’s wife, Ashley Bachelor, dressed up as Storm, Wolverine’s mutant X-Men hero. She nailed the costume, down to a few contacts invoking lightning:

Rondo was a four-time All-Star with the Boston Celtics, but an ACL tear in 2013 definitely changed his career path. In addition to the four All-Star rounds, he has also been a four-time All-Defensive member, an All-NBA winner and a crucial player for two champion teams (the 2008 Celtics and more importantly the 2020 Lakers) , while appearing in three finals to date. Are these credentials worthy of the Hall of Fame? May be. What we do know for sure, however, is that her outfit this year is certainly a timeless one.

The other former Lakers All-Star on a minimum veteran contract, DeAndre Jordan, spent the evening enjoying the grooves of a Dead and Co. show, according to his Instagram story.

Injured Lakers combo guard Kendrick Nunn is one of the few players not hit minimum wage alongside the club’s ‘big three’ of LeBron, Russ and AD, alongside fellow guard Talen Horton-Tucker . Nunn wore a creepy goblin / troll creature mask, alongside a creepy Baba Yaga hood, pseudo-medieval green cloak, and cleaver. Nunn’s significant other disguised himself as Aladdin (1992) heroine Princess Jasmine.

Like most of his fellow Lakers this year, injured forward Trevor Ariza has embraced the dark side as well, playing the Heath Ledger-era iteration of the Joker from The black Knight (2008).

Every Laker who has dressed up (again, at press time), has taken full advantage of their Hollywood home, putting together professional quality outfits.

Every Laker, that is, except one: injured shooter Wayne Ellington. Ellington and his family all wore decent rubber masks for each Avenger, but there was a shortage of TLC in developing any type of costume for each character. Ellington wore a Hulk mask, his wife Safie Khaled wore a Black Panther mask, and their children dressed as Spider-Man and Iron Man. The family dog celebrated the holidays in his birthday costume. Family coordination is cute, but considering what the rest of the Lakers roster has been up to, we wish they had built the costumes:
