Cowboys’ Micah Parsons intent on breaking NFL sack record in 2022: ‘Fifteen is the minimum’ for second year

Micah Parsons isn’t just one of the best young players in the NFL. He is also one of the emerging ambassadors of the NFL’s best video game. Months after teaming with Vikings star Justin Jefferson to win the ‘Madden NFL 22’ virtual Pro Bowl, the Cowboys passing thrower is in Los Angeles to finish production on a new ‘Madden NFL 23’ commercial. of this year.

Ahead of the Aug. 19 release of ‘Madden NFL 23′ and his own return to the field for Cowboys training camp, the reigning defensive rookie of the year spoke with CBS Sports about his ‘Madden’ partnership. , expectations of 2022 and NFC East rivalries:

Can you tease your role in this “Madden” ad? Will you be suited for it?

Parsons: I’m going to do a few things to boost my abilities, raise my grades a bit (in “Madden”). I’m going to be in uniform for a bit. Just tell people to be ready, and if you’re in Franchise Mode, make Dallas Cowboys No. 11 your first-round pick.

Do you plan any future acting gigs after this ad?

Parsons: I do. I do. I see myself on TV. People say I have a smile on TV, a face on TV, so I’m ready to put my acting skills to the test. Acting and obviously streaming a game, I just want to be around the game for as long as possible.

You’ve been in “Madden” for a while. What is your favorite team when you play?

Parsons: I would probably say the Packers, just because their defense is really good on the game. The Packers or the Bucs.

And which quarterback is the best player with?

Parsons: Either (Patrick) Mahomes or Lamar (Jackson).

What about Dak Prescott?

Parsons: I would say in the game he is definitely one of the top 10 quarterbacks to play in the game.

What did you think of the return of the late John Madden’s “Madden” to the cover of this year’s game?

Parsons: You know, I thought that was pretty amazing, not only because of his passing — RIP — but when you love the game, you understand why John is the cover of the game. He (did) all his possible to stay around the game and love the game and even help others understand the game. It made so many people around the world love the game. For ‘Madden’, it was a good thing to do, because we love this game, not just in real life, but online with friends. I think this year, “Madden” just represents the love of the game, putting John on the cover, because that’s what it’s about.

Have you ever had the chance to play “Madden NFL 23”?

Parsons: I played the beta. I think it will be a much better game, definitely defensively. Offense is definitely a little harder to play this year, but as a defensive player, I love that you can’t just rely on corny plays and stuff like that to be good at the game. will definitely be skill-based, which was not last year; it was just like, who could throw it deep?

What specifically stood out in terms of defensive play being better?

Parsons: This (new feature) FieldSENSE, areas are much better, people understand where they are supposed to be in the field, how they are able to enter routes.

And what are the chances that you’ll be on the cover of “Madden” next year?

Parsons: Oh man, I’m not sure, I’ve heard of this Madden Curse. But man, a Madden cover would be a dream come true. Seeing some of the greatest players appear on this cover would undoubtedly be a dream come true.

When it comes to your real playing career, how do you handle the high expectations after your star rookie season?

Parsons: I’m just taking the blessings that God has given me. I don’t feel like I need to meet anyone’s expectations other than my own. If I can live with it, I can handle it. I’m just gonna go out there and play my game. I don’t wanna go out there and chase nobody’s story, I just gotta do my thing, and that’s what got me here and that’s what I will continue to do.

But do you have any numbers in mind for 2022, having hit 13 sacks as a rookie?

Parsons: Yes, 15 is the minimum. 15 is what I want to hit. But certainly 23 is that goal, breaking the record.

Your Cowboys, meanwhile, get the fewest bets among NFC East teams to win the division. What is your reaction to this?

Parsons: I don’t care, because we were forgotten last year. And that comes with the game. We’re just going to focus on the 52, 53 finals that are on the Dallas Cowboys in this room and improve every week. We just have to monitor how to improve each week, and hope that you lose your money.

Of these NFC East rivals, which of the Eagles, Giants and Commanders look the toughest for 2022?

Parsons: I think they all had very good competition. I mean, it’s the NFL. It will depend on who can perform.

Which of the rival QBs is the easiest to fire?

Parsons: I don’t think any of them are too easy. It’s really difficult. I mean, (Carson) Wentz is back in the division and hasn’t been there. I never touched Daniel Jones either. Never touched Daniel Jones; I think he got injured in our game and didn’t even play at all after that. And then Wentz, I’ve never played him. We hit (Jalen) Hurts a bit, but I got COVID the last game. These guys are really new to me, to be honest.

Last question: Who has more big plays this year, you or Trevon Diggs?

Parsons: Hmm, me. I told Tre that I could lead the team in tryouts this year. We don’t have any money on it, but I really practiced this year to get my hands on some picks this year.
