Executive thinks Damian Lillard should stay with Trail Blazers

NBA Analysis Network

Damian Lillard has been one of the most talked about names in the NBA this offseason. The only player who may have been talked about more is disgruntled Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons. Rumors are circulating about Lillard’s future with the Portland Trail Blazers, with many speculating that Lillard will be traded at some point in the near future.

Despite all the commercial rumors, Lillard decided to stick with the Trail Blazers. He will at least start the 2021-22 NBA season in Portland, although that could change if the team struggles to start the year.

In a league full of stars teaming up and forming “super teams,” Lillard has remained loyal to the city of Portland. He has remained steadfast in his goal of bringing a championship to the Trail Blazers. Unfortunately, the Blazers failed to attract enough talent around him to make this happen.

While there is uncertainty about Lillard’s future in Portland, an NBA executive has spoken to the NBA Analysis Network about his future and believes he should stay with the Trail Blazers.

“Damian Lillard is one of the most loyal players the league has seen in a long time. Players are always looking to join forces with each other to win a championship and very few want to stay with the team that drafted them against all those elite contenders. Honestly, I hope he stays in Portland and the franchise can put a winner around him. They are a rare breed and it would be a breath of fresh air to see them stick to that morality.

Just a few years ago, Lillard led the Trail Blazers to the Western Conference Finals. They ended up losing to the Golden State Warriors super team. Since then, the Blazers have made the first round of the back-to-back playoffs.

Lillard put on another masterful performance last season. He finished the season averaging 28.8 points per game for 7.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds. On top of those numbers, Lillard shot 45.1% from the floor overall and knocked down 39.1% of his three-point attempts.

At 31, time is running out for Lillard to be able to bring an NBA Finals victory to the Trail Blazers. He feels this pressure, which made all the rumors start to circulate. Lillard may or may not leave Portland, but there are many who would like to see him avoid trying to join a great team.

Expect to continue to hear a ton of rumors regarding Damian Lillard and his future with the Trail Blazers in the months to come. We are not about to hear the last of this situation.
