Fantasy Basketball Pick: Best NBA DFS DraftKings Selection Strategy for Wizards vs Jazz Showdown December 18

Saturday’s NBA Showdown Contest involves the Wizards of Washington and the Utah Jazz at 9 p.m. ET. The league has been hit hard by COVID recently, but these two teams are relatively unscathed.

As per usual, DraftKings has a huge Showdown contest for this game, and below I give you some of my favorite options for attacking for the format.

Editor’s note: Jazz PG Mike Conley (rest) was ruled out tonight against the Wizards.

The captain’s choices

Rudy Gobert ($ 15,600)

Gobert stands out as the best stud option in this competition. He’s averaging DKFP 1.33 per minute this season which is the highest rating among players in this game. He also draws an elite match. The Wizards are only 20th in defensive efficiency, and have been crushed by opposing crosses this season. Ultimately, Gobert owns the upper cap in this game, so he makes a lot of sense in the captain’s place.

Donovan Mitchell ($ 16,500)

Mitchell is the other stallion to consider for Jazz. The Jazz are the preferred team to target in this game. They are currently listed as favorites with 9.5 points, so they have a significant advantage in the team’s implied total. They are currently involved for 116.75 points, which is the highest score on Saturday’s entire list.

Mitchell handles most of the scoring responsibilities for Jazz. He leads the team with a 33.2% utilization rate, which is the fifth highest score in the league. On a night when the Jazz are expected to score more than usual, Mitchell appears to be the biggest beneficiary.

UTIL plays

Jordan Clarkson ($ 6,000)

Clarkson is another member of the Jazz who should benefit from a higher play score than usual. He’s second on the team in terms of usage at 27.9%, and he’s been riding recently. He has scored at least 32.0 DKFP in consecutive games, so his prize of $ 6,000 is reasonable.

Daniel Gafford ($ 5,800)

It’s hard to find a ton of value on the Wizards in this game, but they have a pair of interesting options down the middle. Montrezl Harrell ($ 6,800) is a bit more expensive, so I’ll try my luck with Gafford. He’s been playing a few minutes longer than Harrell recently, and the two are equal to the minute. Gafford has averaged 1.10 DraftKings points per minute over the past month, while Harrell has averaged 1.04.

Rudy Gay ($ 3,400)

Gay’s price has come down a bit recently, making it an attractive call option against the Wizards. He usually doesn’t play a lot of minutes – he’s registered 18.9 or less in three of his last four games – but he’s making up for it with a strong output per minute. This makes him the ideal type of punt game in a game format. He is able to pay his salary with his usual minutes allowance, and he has excellent potential if he plays more than usual.

Bradley Beal ($ 11,400)

Beal has always been one of the best shooting goaltenders in the league, but he hasn’t been the same fantastic player so far this season. He has scored 42.5 DKFP or less in nine of his last 10 games, and the only exception was a game with 45.25 DKFP. That doesn’t give it much advantage at its current price, especially in a tough showdown against the Jazz. I’m okay with avoiding it and focusing on the high-priced players on the other side.

The result

The Wizards have had a good start to the season, but they’re not in the same league as the Jazz. Utah still follows the Suns in wins and losses, but they have arguably been the second-best team in the league this season. They edged their opponents by an average of +11.1 points per 100 possessions, which puts them slightly behind the Warriors’ best mark of +11.5. The Wizards are only 23rd in net scoring so I expect the Jazz to go through this game.

Final score: Jazz 119, Wizards 107
