Get vaccinated as more vaccines arrive in the country – Manila Newsletter

On Tuesday, June 15, Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go reiterated his call for Filipinos to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as the government continues to expand the national immunization program and more doses of vaccine arrive in the country.

Do not waste the opportunity na mabakunahan po kayo. Nandiyan na po ang bakuna… magpabakuna na kayo. Its economic frontliners, essential workers, pumunta na po kayo, magpalista na po kayo. Magpabakuna na kayo (Don’t waste the opportunity to get vaccinated. The vaccine is there… get vaccinated. In the front ranks of the economy, essential workers go out there and sign up. Get vaccinated), ”Go said during the event. the launch of the 119th Malasakit Center at Quezon City National Children’s Hospital on Monday, June 14.

Go, chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, told Filipinos not to fear vaccines but rather the deadly virus.

“Be afraid of COVID-19 because it kills. The vaccine is our ally. The vaccine is the key or the solution to our return to normal life, ” he added.

Citing the situation in some countries such as the United States where basketball games could now be held with a live audience for fully vaccinated people, Go persuaded Filipinos to get vaccinated so the Philippines could quickly reach their objective of community protection.

With more Filipinos fully immunized, Go said it could further build safety and confidence in communities to possibly consider opening some public events in accordance with prescribed health protocols.

“For basketball fans, I know you watch the National Basketball Association (NBA). You can see those who got their second dose are already in the audience watching the game. We in the country have not started the PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) season because we are late. However, our delay may add to our study of how to slowly open it), ”Go said.

In the meantime, Go said the Department of Health (DOH) is monitoring sports teams training in their respective bubbles.

“For example, for now the PBA, they are practicing and the DOH is monitoring them closely to make sure they are on the restriction,” he added.

The FIBA (International Basketball Federation) qualifiers are now in Clark. The Philippines will play against Korea (South). They are not allowed to go out, even if they are already fully vaccinated, ”he added.

Go also said that some of the possible incentives should be given to people who are fully vaccinated, as more Filipinos are receiving their vaccines.

” Not just for seniors, it’s for all my compatriots. This means that once you are fully vaccinated you can now go outside. The restrictions will be relaxed for you, ”he said.

Go, then, expressed optimism about the “light at the end of the tunnel” as the government hopes to meet the collective immunity target of $ 70 million by the end of 2021.
