KANSAS CITY— Charlotte Atchley has been promoted to Editor-in-Chief of Cooking & Snack, a magazine of Sosland Publishing Co. (SPC). Dan Malovany, who served as interim editor, will become executive editor.
Additionally, Michelle Smith has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of Cooking & Snack, while Taryn Parker has joined the editorial team as Associate Digital Editor.
“I am grateful to have the opportunity to lead Cooking & Snack into the next phase of its impressive history, ”Ms. Atchley said. “My team and I stand ready to continue to provide you with the best information on equipment trends, formulation and technology that you expect. We’re excited to try out new ideas to meet you where you are while staying true to the magazine’s roots, as the leading authority on baking and snacking.
As editor, Ms. Atchley will oversee the magazine’s editorial activities and lead new digital efforts.
Ms Atchley joined the publication in 2011 as Associate Editor and most recently was Editor-in-Chief from 2014-2020. During this time, she covered news, trends and events in the baking industry, moderated trade show panels, participated in three IBIE cycles and launched the magazine’s first podcast From the sliced bread.
Prior to joining SPC and during her graduate studies, Ms. Atchley gained experience in the baking industry while working at BK Bakery in Jefferson City, Missouri. She holds a BA in Communications from Southwest Baptist University and an MA in Journalism from the University of Missouri.

As editor-in-chief, Mr. Malovany will continue to write for the magazine and provide editorial advice. He will also act as a key advisor as the publication staff grows.
Before becoming Cooking & Snackthe acting editor of, Mr. Malovany, was managing editor. He has worked for the magazine for over 10 years and has covered the wholesale bakery industry for over 30 years.
Mrs. Smith joins Cooking & Snack of Influence and Co., a content marketing company. As a writer on the marketing team, Ms. Smith has helped clients create content for their company websites and for publications such as Fast Co. and Contractor. She has also held editorial positions at Kansas City Star, USA today and the Register of Monks. Ms. Smith holds a BA in Journalism and Political Science from the University of Missouri.
Before joining Cooking & Snack, Ms. Parker was the Marketing Coordinator at American Outdoor Brands. She holds a BA in Journalism and Psychology from the University of Missouri. At the university, Ms. Parker was a journalist at Columbia Missourien and Vox Magazine.
